'No Talking, No Phones': Employee Claims Jail Is Better Than His Workplace

The post has sparked massive outrage from internet users urging the employee to "name and shame" the company by exposing its practices on platforms like Glassdoor to warn potential job seekers

An employee likened their office conditions to a "jail" rather than a productive workspace in a post that has gained significant attention on Reddit's popular Indian workplace subreddit. A screenshot of a message from an unidentified employee paints a picture of a highly restrictive work environment, where even looking away from the desktop screen to rest one’s eyes could result in reprimand. Phone use is strictly prohibited, with personal calls from family allowed only in cases of extreme emergency.

Frequent restroom breaks are discouraged to prevent "time consumption," and even basic communication with colleagues is limited to digital channels. Instead of speaking to coworkers in person, the employee must message or use Microsoft Teams—an approach seemingly designed to maintain a "chaos-free" environment.

The employee began their message with a request: "Please make a reel on my current office environment."

In the message describing his unnamed workplace, he writes: "I cannot even look at anything else order than my desktop. Cannot even close my eyes for a while to prevent eye strain. Phone's not allowed in the office even if it's a call from family unless really really urgent. Cannot use washroom frequently because it's time consuming. Cannot talk to the person sitting right beside me to prevent chaos in the office I have to text him and talk on Microsoft teams if there is a requirement. Literal silent office. No talking even for a second. Jail is better. At least I can talk there and look somewhere else or at least stand up if I want to.”

The post has sparked massive outrage from internet users urging the employee to "name and shame" the company by exposing its practices on platforms like Glassdoor to warn potential job seekers. “Cannot believe this is the sort of contracts that people actually have to agree to, just to be able to support the minimum requirements of life. The government will proudly present these organizations as "employment sources" whilst there is no governing body which regulates and checks the working conditions or the employment contracts,” wrote one of the internet users.
