The state transport minister said that currently 45,900 e-vehicles are plying on the city roads, of which 36 per cent are two-wheelers

New Delhi: For first 10,000 buyers of e-cycles in Delhi, a subsidy of Rs 5,500 will be provided by Delhi government.

According to a report by the PTI, this scheme was announced by Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot on Thursday. The first 1,000 buyers of passenger e-cycles will also be given an additional subsidy of Rs 2,000, Gahlot said.

The state government will also give subsidy on purchase of heavy duty cargo e-cycles and e-carts for commercial uses, he said.

The subsidy on cargo e-cycles will be Rs 15,000 each for first 5,000 buyers. The subsidy was earlier provided to individual buyers of e-carts but now a company or corporate house buying these vehicles will also be provided a subsidy of Rs 30,000, he said.

Gahlot said the residents of Delhi only will be eligible to avail the subsidy scheme.

The minister said that currently 45,900 e-vehicles are plying on the city roads, of which 36 per cent are two-wheelers. The percentage of e-vehicles in total registered vehicles in Delhi has crossed 12 per cent mark, he said.

To curb pollution in the national cpital, the state government earlier had launched a scheme in October 2021 for the registration of 4,261 e-autos, of which 33 per cent (1,406 e-autos) are reserved for women drivers.

The state government is taking several initiatives to promote e-vehicles. It had conducted a computerised draw for e-autos in Delhi on February 14 and within three days, the first 20 drivers who registered for the e-auto were handed over the permission letters.
