Mumbai Police Summons BookMyShow CEO In Coldplay Ticket Black Marketing

This summons follows a complaint filed by Advocate Amit Vyas, who accused the ticketing platform of enabling black market ticket sales for the much-anticipated Coldplay concert

The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Mumbai Police has summoned Ashish Hemrajani, CEO of Big Tree Entertainment, the parent company of BookMyShow, and the company’s technical head to investigate the alleged black market sales of Coldplay concert tickets. Both have been asked to appear before the investigating officer on Saturday to provide their statements concerning the ongoing inquiry, reported ANI.

This summons follows a complaint filed by Advocate Amit Vyas, who accused the ticketing platform of enabling black market ticket sales for the much-anticipated Coldplay concert.

According to Vyas, tickets initially priced at Rs 2,500 are being resold by third parties and influencers for as much as Rs 3 lakh. He has accused BookMyShow of deceiving the public and Coldplay fans and is calling for an FIR to be filed against the company on fraud charges.

The EOW has recorded Vyas's statement and identified several brokers implicated in the alleged ticket scalping. Ongoing investigations are expected to lead to additional summons for other individuals involved in the case.

The Coldplay concert, scheduled for January 19 to 21, 2025, at DY Patil Stadium, is anticipated to be one of the most highly awaited events of the year.

The investigation was triggered by the chaotic ticket sales on September 22, when tickets for the Coldplay concert were released at noon. Technical glitches plagued the sale, causing all tickets for the first two shows to sell out within seconds. Due to the overwhelming demand, Coldplay subsequently announced a third show on January 21, which also sold out nearly instantly.

BookMyShow, the official ticketing partner for Coldplay’s concerts, has previously filed a police complaint regarding the sale of counterfeit tickets on unauthorised platforms. The company has clarified that it is not affiliated with ticket resale websites like Viagogo and Gigsberg, nor with any individuals engaged in ticket reselling for Coldplay's "Music Of The Spheres World Tour 2025" in India.
