Budget Economic Survey 2019: Ahead of the much awaited Budget 2019 which is to be presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on July 5, the Chief Economic Advisor KV Subramanian will table Economic Survey 2019 which highlights the ongoing economic trends in the country. The Economic Survey also facilitates a better appreciation of the mobilisation of resources and their allocation in the Budget. Along with the Budget, this will also be the first Economic Survey of Narendra Modi government 2.0. Prepared by CEA himself, Economic Survey is an annual Budgetary exercise which is considered as Government of India’s flagship annual document. “Looking forward with excitement to table my first – and the new Government’s first – Economic Survey in Parliament… #EcoSurvey2019,” CEA Subramanian posted on Twitter. What is Economic Survey? In simpler terms, the Department of Economic Affairs along with the Union Finance Ministry of India presents the Economic Survey in the parliament every year, just before tabling the Union Budget. It is prepared under the guidance of the Chief Economic Adviser and senior officials of the Finance Ministry. Speaking at large, an Economic Survey is the ministry's view on the annual economic development of the country. The survey is essentially a summary of the performance on major development programmes and highlights the policy initiatives of the government and the prospects of the economy in the short to medium term. The survey reveals the ongoing trends in various sectors including agricultural, infrastructure, employment, cost of living, imports, exports, foreign exchange reserves and other relevant economic factors which have a bearing on the Budget. When is Economic Survey 2019? The Economic Survey 2019 will be presented in a joint Parliament session (including members of both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha) during the Budget Session 2019. CEA Subramanian will table the Economic Survey 2019 one day ahead of Budget 2019 i.e. July 4, 2019 (Thursday). Reportedly, the survey will be tabled at 12 pm.
