Anand Mahindra Responds To ‘Rude’ Criticism As User Asks Him To 'Fix Ground Level Issues Of Existing Cars'

Netizens had a mixed response to the whole incident. Some felt that the tonality of user's post was too rude, while others shared their own ill experiences of dealing with Mahindra and their products

Social media has helped bring the voice of the general public to the front and connect entrepreneurs with the common people. However, this voice can sometimes be very harsh. One such incident over the weekend became the talk of the town on the internet after a user expressed their frustration with the products of the Mahindra Group on social media.

The user, Sushant Mehta, took to X, formerly known as Twitter, shared his angst about Mahindra vehicles and urged Anand Mahindra to fix the ground issues of their cars.

In the post, Mehta said, “You better fix your ground level issues of existing cars, service centres, spare parts issues, employees behaviour first.” Pointing out the flaws in the design of the brand’s cars, he added, “Every single product of yours is for those who don’t study and research, media is full with complaints, I won’t talk about looks of your products because that’s subjective still your cars stand nowhere at all near Hyundai when it comes to aesthetics.”

However, the entrepreneur took the harsh criticism and responded, “You’re right, Sushant. We have a long way to go. But please consider how far we have come. When I joined the company in 1991, the economy had just been opened up. A global consulting firm strongly advised us to exit the car business since we had no chance, in their view, of competing with the foreign brands that would enter.”

Acknowledging the tone of the user’s post, Mahindra said, “Three decades later, we are still around and competing fiercely. We have used all the surrounding cynicism, scepticism—and even rudeness, as in your post—to fuel our hunger to succeed. Yes we have miles to go before we sleep. There is no room for any complacency and continuous improvement will continue to be our mantra. But thank you for feeding the fire in our bellies….”

Social media users lauded the businessman for handling the criticism in a calm manner. One of the users said, "Absolutely dignified response Anand."

However, another post by Mehta showed that the carmaker's team pursued him to take down the original post.

Meanwhile, Netizens had a mixed response to the whole incident. Some felt that the tonality of Mehta's post was too rude, and one user commented, "Your words were very harsh. that wasn’t constructive criticism. it was plain and simple frustration and a slew of derogatory statements."

However, there were others who shared their own ill experiences of dealing with Mahindra and their products. One user noted, "I personally feel that Mahindra needs to improve its service quality if it wants to compete with Maruti. While I strongly believe @anandmahindra is aware of this, the company likely understands the practical, on-ground challenges better. I hope they address these issues soon."
