7th Pay Commission: BMC Employees likely to receive hiked salary from February 2019

7th Pay Commission: The 7th CPC recommendations have been approved by the Mumbai state government and it has to be followed for the BMC employees eventually.

7th Pay Commission recommendations for Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) employees are likely to be finalized within this month, and the pay hike will be disbursed from February 2019 onwards. The 7th CPC recommendations have been approved by the Mumbai state government and it has to be followed for the BMC employees eventually; however, the state government is yet to come up with a devised plan of action for the implementation of these recommendations. Approximately 1.05 lac employees and 1.35 lac pensioners will benefit if 7CPC recommendations are brought to effect by the BMC. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) administration is expected to meet various employee unions this week to negotiate 7th Pay Commission recommendations and bring to effect the mutually decided terms. As per reports, BMC has already directed its Head of Departments and Assistant Commissioners to gather data on rationalized duty hours of the municipal corporation employees. The BMC administration has made a twenty-point agenda to discuss with the employee unions to negotiate the 7th Pay Commission recommendations. “Each department has fixed working hours. In order to streamline, these work hours will be taken in written,” stated Sudhir Naik, Deputy Municipal Commissioner (General Administration), Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). On the other hand, various Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Employee unions have set forth lists of their demands. “We have prepared a five points charter of demand that will be tabled before the administration during the meeting. Making Aadhar not mandatory for biometric attendance, immediate implementation of pay commission recommendation, health insurance are some of our other demands,” said Sainath Rajadhyaksha, General Secretary, BMC Engineers Union. Meanwhile, the BMC has been criticized for its lack of intervention in addressing the woes of Brihanmumbai Electric Supply & Transport (BEST), which is a part of the civic body, but has a separate budget. The BEST employee unions have demanded to combine its budget with the BMC so that the budget-rich municipal corporation can balance out the empty coffers of BEST and meet employees demands including higher salaries.
