Nobel Prize in Literature 2024: The Swedish Academy for Literature will announce the Nobel Prize in Literature for 2024 on Thursday, October 10. This will be the 117th time Nobel Prize in Literature will be awarded. In 2023, Jon Fosse was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature “for his innovative plays and prose which give voice to the unsayable”.
The Nobel Prize in Literature has so far been awarded 116 times, and there has been a total of 120 recipients between 1901 and 2023. Unlike in other disciplines, the award has never gone to a single recipient twice, and has been shared between two persons on four occasions only — in 1904, 1917, 1966 and 1974.
No Literature Nobel was awarded in 1914, 1918, 1935, 1940, 1941, 1942, and 1943.
In 1913, the Nobel Prize in Literature was awarded to India's Rabindranath Tagore "because of his profoundly sensitive, fresh and beautiful verse, by which, with consummate skill, he has made his poetic thought, expressed in his own English words, a part of the literature of the West".
The Nobel Prize in Literature 2024 will be announced on on Thursday, October 10, at 13:00 CEST (4:30 pm IST), according to the Nobel Prize website.

The Nobel Foundation, created to manage the fund Alfred Nobel bequeathed his fortune to in his 1895 will, collaborates with different organisations to select and reward the laureates — the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences for Physics and Chemistry, Karolinska Institute for Medicine, Swedish Academy for Literature, and the Norwegian Nobel Committee for Peace.
