New Delhi: Many students, citizens and artists came together to create thousands of kolam drawings to welcome Kamala Harris. Kolam is a traditional Indian art of geometric patterns, it is also called rangoli, and there are different versions of it found all across the country. In Tamil Nadu, where Kamala Harris’ origins lay, it is usually hand drawn by the women of the house hold using rice flour.
An online initiative started after the Capitol siege in which about 1800 individuals participated from India and US to create kolam designs. A Twitter page dedicated to the Indian diaspora in the USA called 'Indiaspora' posted the pictures on the microblogging site. Appropriately, it called the decorations 'some beauty after the chaos.'

Kolam symbolizes positivity and new beginning, so it is fitting for the first-ever female vice-president of Indian descent to begin her journey.
On January 20th, President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris will be sworn in. The inauguration day signifies the event that marks the start of a new presidency, and it takes place in Washington DC. During the event the President elect Joe Biden will recite the presidential oath of office. Kamala Harris will become vice-president once she takes the oath of office, which usually happens just before the president is sworn in. After the ceremony, Biden will shift into the White House later in the day - his home for the next four years.
