2022 Mahindra Scorpio N Review: Know How The SUV Delivers On Diesel Fuel Efficiency, Mileage & More
Recently, we took the Scorpio N for a massive road trip of nearly 1600kms and while a proper road trip review will follow soon, today we will discuss the Scorpio N's fuel efficiency.
Mahindra Scorpio N: Earlier fuel efficiency mattered only to those who were buying hatchbacks but with hiking fuel prices, it is something that is pinching all with SUVs and the typical usage consisting of road trips plus more. The fuel efficiency that they give is crucial for a longer range and also for long road trips. Recently, we took the Scorpio N for a massive road trip of nearly 1600kms and while a proper road trip review will follow soon, today we will discuss the Scorpio N's fuel efficiency.
We had the top-end diesel automatic 2WD model for this test and our efficiency review would be focused on that. There is also a petrol version with 200ps but for now we had the 175bhp 2.2l diesel. The diesel version also comes with 4x4 and has drive modes. Our diesel automatic also had drive modes including Zip, Zap and Zoom. We drove mostly in Zap mode as Zip mode limits power by 37bhp over the full 175bhp that you get in other modes.
The diesel automatic has a 6-speed torque converter and as mentioned earlier in our review, it has a strong amount of torque which enables for a relaxed cruising on the highway. Our run started in the city though where the mileage dipped to 10 kmpl as we started. The Scorpio N has a 57 litres fuel tank which translates to around 650km plus range. Our drive on the highway resulted in an efficiency figure of 12 kmpl for the diesel automatic which further increased to 13kmpl with relaxed cruising.
Hence, the mileage of the diesel automatic proved to be better than the Thar diesel while being nearly the same as the XUV700. The Zip mode will increase efficiency as it dulls throttle response while Zap is the best compromise between both. The massive engine and the shape of the Scorpio N added with the weight means these efficiency numbers are quite decent.
