New Delhi: Jeep has launched its Meridian SUV in India and its pricing starts from Rs 29.9 lakh with only a diesel engine being offered. The price difference between top-end Jeep Compass and Meridian variants is not huge which means Jeep India has kept it competitive. The Meridian unlike the Compass gets a diesel engine only, which is a 2.0-litre turbocharged motor that generates 170 HP at 3,750 rpm and a maximum torque of 350 Nm. Gearbox options include a six-speed manual transmission and a nine-speed automatic transmission while 4x2 and 4x4 are available.
You can also spec the 4x2 with an automatic option which gives more choice to buyers. The official claimed mileage of the Meridian diesel comes in at 16.2 km/l.The Meridian comes in two trims: Limited and Limited (O). The three-row SUV claims 481-litres of boot space while seating five people and 170-litres of boot space with all seven seats up. The feature list includes leather seats, third-row cooling with controls, automatic headlamps, diamond-cut dual-tone 18-inch alloy wheels plus the Limited (O) trim further gets a two-tone roof and a dual-pane sunroof, a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, a 360-degree camera, and a powered lift-gate etc.
The Meridian comes in cheaper than the Toyota Fortuner which retails between 34.29 lakh to Rs 48.43 lakh. It also rivals other SUVs like the Skoda Kodiaq and others while do note that the Kodiaq is available with a petrol engine only.
