G Wagon Goes Electric And India Will Get It Soon: Preview

The G 580 with EQ Technology is the production version of the electric G Wagon which was earlier previewed in India as a concept EQG

The iconic G Wagon has been a popular car with the elite in India and despite its 3 crore plus price-tag, the G Wagon still has a long waiting list. Now, Mercedes-Benz will kick things off in 2025 with the India unveil of the G Wagon electric. The G 580 with EQ Technology is the production version of the electric G Wagon which was earlier previewed in India as a concept EQG. Interestingly the electric G Wagon barely has any big design changes over the standard G Class but there are some.

There is a new blanked off grille and some new aerodynamics tweaks too but the proper G Wagon styling has been retained. However, the rear spare wheel cover is not actually holding the spare wheel as instead it has the charging cable. There is a massive 116kwh battery while there are no less than four electric motors which produce around 587hp and 1,165Nm.

The range however is 470km and that is less than the other electric Mercedes cars due to the fact that it is more built for off-road performance while also the shape is not as aerodynamic. There is a low-range transmission and even more water wading capability than the regular G Wagon. Then there are the cool features like the G-Turn and the G-steering wheel as with the G-Turn the car will turn 90 degrees and that helps in narrow off-road areas. We expect the electric G Wagon to cost more than the G63 and could touch Rs 4cr but already it has received  a sizeable number of bookings.
