Chaiti Chhath Puja 2025 — Start Of The Grand Festival, Know The Dates And Muhurat For Kharna To Surya Arghya

Chaiti Chhath Puja 2025: The four-day grand festival begins on April 1, 2025, with Nahay-Khay and lasts from Chaitra month's Shukla Paksha Chaturthi to Saptami Tithi.

Chaiti Chhath Puja 2025: Chhath Puja is a significant Hindu festival celebrated twice a year—once in Kartik month and again in Chaitra month, known as Chaiti Chhath. This festival is dedicated to the worship of Lord Bhaskar (Sun God) and Goddess Shashthi (Chhathi Maiya).

Although Chhath Puja in Kartik month is more popular, both celebrations follow the same rituals and fasting rules. Chaiti Chhath falls during Chaitra Navratri. Devotees observe a strict 36-hour waterless fast and follow rigorous rituals. As per religious beliefs, this fast is observed for the well-being of children, marital bliss, family prosperity, and wish fulfillment.

Chaiti Chhath Puja 2025

According to the Panchang, Chaiti Chhath begins on the Chaturthi Tithi of the Shukla Paksha in the Chaitra month and concludes on the Saptami Tithi. This year, Chaiti Chhath has started today, Tuesday, April 1, 2025. Today marks the "Nahay-Khay" ritual, during which a sattvic meal of pumpkin, chana dal, and arwa rice is prepared. Let’s explore the important dates and timings of the Chhath festival.

Important Dates And Timings Of Chhath Puja

  • Kharna: The second day of Chaiti Chhath, Wednesday, April 2, marks Kharna. It is considered the true beginning of Chhath Puja. On this day, devotees prepare jaggery kheer as prasad. They observe a waterless fast throughout the day and break it in the evening with the special prasad. After Kharna, the rigorous 36-hour Nirjala fast begins.
  • Sandhya Arghya: On the third day of Chaiti Chhath, devotees offer Arghya to the setting sun. It is a significant ritual performed by standing in rivers, ponds, or lakes. This day holds great importance in Chhath Puja. In 2025, the Sandhya Arghya will be offered on April 3, with the timing set until 6:40 PM.
  • Usha Arghya: On the fourth and final day of Chaiti Chhath, devotees offer Arghya to the rising sun, marking the conclusion of the festival. After this ritual, the vrat (fast) is broken. In 2025, the Usha Arghya will be performed on April 4, with the timing set until 6:08 AM.
