This year, Devshayani Ekadashi falls on Wednesday, 17 July 2024. From this day, Chaturmas will begin. Devshayani Ekadashi is also known as Harishayani Ekadashi, Ashadhi Ekadashi, and Padmanabha Ekadashi. It is believed that those who observe the Devshayani Ekadashi fast do not go to hell and are freed from the torments of Yamaloka, eventually attaining Vaikuntha Dham.

Devshayani Ekadashi Significance
According to the Puranas, on the day of Devshayani Ekadashi, Lord Vishnu resides in a yogic sleep state in the netherworld at King Bali's place for four months and wakes up on the Ekadashi of the Shukla Paksha of Kartik month, known as Devuthani Ekadashi. Vishnu, the preserver of the universe, hands over the responsibility of managing the universe to Shiva during his yogic sleep.
Auspicious Activities to Halt from Devshayani Ekadashi (Chaturmas 2024)
Before Devshayani Ekadashi, all auspicious activities like marriages, Head Shaving (Mundan) ceremonies, and Housewarming (Grih Pravesh) should be completed because, after this, auspicious activities are halted for four months as the deities are in a sleeping state, leading to unfavorable results of such activities. It is believed that during Chaturmas, the worship of Shiva, Vishnu, Ganesha, and Goddess Durga is considered most auspicious.
