After parents, the Guru is the guide who shows the path and differentiates between right and wrong. Receiving the blessings of guru on this day is believed to make life easier. It is a day to express gratitude and respect towards the Guru, offer donations, and worship Ved Vyas Ji.

Kabir Das highlighted the importance of the Guru with the couplet:

"Guru Govind dou khade, kake lagoon paay Balihari Guru aapne, Govind diyo batay"

This means, when both the Guru and Govind (God) are present, one should first touch the feet of the Guru, because it is through the Guru's knowledge that one attains the vision of God.
