Chhath, also known as Chhath Puja, is a vibrant and ancient Hindu festival dedicated to the worship of the Sun God, Surya, and Chhathi Maiya, the Goddess of Usha (dawn). Celebrated with great zeal and enthusiasm, Chhath is particularly significant in the states of Bihar, Jharkhand, and Uttar Pradesh. This unique festival spans four days of rituals and devotions, where devotees express gratitude to the Sun for sustaining life on Earth. Chhath Puja involves a series of traditional practices, including rigorous fasting, holy bathing, and offering prayers during sunrise and sunset. According to the calendar, Chhath Parv is celebrated on the sixth day of Kartik Shukla Paksha. However, the festival commences with nahay-khay on the fourth day, and the fast is concluded on the seventh day.
Chhath Puja 2023 Dates:
Chhath Puja lasts for four days, and the observers observe a Nirjala fast for 36 hours. Therefore, Chhath Vrat is considered one of the challenging fasts. This year, Chhath Puja begins on November 17, 2023. On this day, devotees will start the Chhath Puja with nahay-khay. Meanwhile, on November 20, the Chhath Puja will conclude with Usha Arghya and Parana.

Chhath Puja Samagri List:
- New Clothes: The fasting woman should first purchase a new saree for herself.
- Bamboo Baskets: Purchase two large bamboo baskets for keeping prasad during Chhath Puja. The entire puja material is placed in these baskets, and men carry them on their heads to the river or pond for worship.
- Soup Pot: A soup pot made of bamboo or brass is required.
- Milk and Water Glass: Bring a glass, lota, or kalash for milk and water offerings.
- Thali: A thali (plate) is also needed for the puja.

Rituals For Chhath Puja Day 2:
- Take a morning bath.
- Take a vow for the fast and perform the puja.
- In the evening, prepare kheer (sweet rice pudding) with rice and jaggery.
- This kheer is called "Rasiyava."
- Afterward, the fasting ritual begins.
- Offer Rasiyava, puri, and sweets as an offering to Lord Surya (the Sun God).
Chhat Puja Day 2, Kharna
Tomorrow is the second day of Chhath Puja and is known as Kharna. On the second day of the Chhath festival, devotees observe a day-long fast. In the evening, the fast is broken by consuming the prasad of jaggery and kheer. Following this, a 26-hour nirjala (without water) fast begins.
