Chandra Grahan 2024: When Is The First Lunar Eclipse Of The Year Taking Place? Know Date, Time, Sutak Kaal Effects

This lunar eclipse will take place in the Virgo sign from 10:23 AM to 03:02 PM. The total duration will be 4 hours and 36 minutes.

This year, a total of 4 eclipses is expected, consisting of 2 lunar eclipses and 2 solar eclipses, with the first lunar eclipse being on March 25. During this time, the moon will be in the Virgo sign, where Rahu will already be positioned. Interestingly, this year Holi also falls on the same day.

According to Panchang, it will occur on the full moon day of the Shukla Paksha of Falgun month and will occur on March 25. This lunar eclipse will take place in the Virgo sign from 10:23 AM to 03:02 PM. The total duration will be 4 hours and 36 minutes.

Places From Where The Lunar Eclipse Will Be Visible:

The lunar eclipse on March 25, 2024, will be a penumbral lunar eclipse. During this eclipse, the moon will only pass through the outer edges of the Earth's shadow. This lunar eclipse will not be visible in India.

It will be visible in parts of the United States, Japan, Russia, Ireland, England, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Belgium, South Norway, and Switzerland. 

Sutak Period For Lunar Eclipse in 2024 (Chandra Grahan Sutak Kal 2024):

The sutak period for a lunar eclipse begins 9 hours before the eclipse. During this time, religious activities are restricted. However, since the lunar eclipse on March 25 will not be visible in India, the sutak period will not be considered valid. There will be no restrictions on any religious activities, and temple doors will not be closed.

Holi Celebrations Under The Shadow Of Lunar Eclipse:

Holika Dahan, the bonfire celebration, will take place on Sunday, March 24, and the festival of colours, Holi, will be played on Monday, March 25. As per Vedic Panchang, the full moon day of the Shukla Paksha of the Falgun month will begin as per the following timings:

Purnima Tithi Begins - 09:54 AM on Mar 24, 2024
Purnima Tithi Ends - 12:29 PM on Mar 25, 2024

Hence, Holi will be celebrated under the shadow of the lunar eclipse on March 25.
