The tradition of celebrating Bada Mangal dates back to the reign of Nawab Saadat Ali (1798-1814). During this time, Nawab's son Mohammad Ali Shah fell severely ill, and despite all treatments, he did not recover. Someone suggested seeking blessings for his son's recovery from Hanuman Ji at the Hanuman temple in Aliganj, Lucknow.

The son recovered miraculously after seeking blessings. In gratitude, the Nawab's wife promised to build a temple. The construction was completed in the Jyeshtha month, and since then, Bada Mangal has been celebrated.

What To Do On Bada Mangal:

  • Visit Hanuman temples, offer chola (clothes) to Bajrangi Hanuman, and recite the Sundarkand. It is believed that doing so will remove all obstacles and fulfill your wishes.
  • Apart from worshipping Hanuman Ji on Bada Mangal, offer water and food to travelers.
  • These Bada Mangal celebrations hold not just religious but also cultural significance, uniting communities in devotion and celebration."
