The Congress President also appointed Shri Gidugu Rudra Raju, the outgoing PCC President as Special Invitee to the Congress Working Committee.

YS Sharmila Reddy was appointed as the president of the Andhra Pradesh Congress with immediate effect on Tuesday. The Congress President also appointed Shri Gidugu Rudra Raju, the outgoing PCC President as Special Invitee to the Congress Working Committee.

Sharmila is the sister of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy. She recently merged her YSR Telangana Party (YSRTP) with the Congress on January 4.

According to a press release from General Secretary of All India Congress Committee, KC Venugopal said, "Hon'ble Congress President has appointed Smt. YB. Sharmila Reddy as the President of the Andhra Pradesh Congress Commitee with immediate effect."

After the announcement, YS Sharmila said, "Hon'ble Congress President has also appointed Shri Gidugu Rudra Raju, the outgoing PCC President as Special Invitee to the Congress Working Committee. The party appreciates the contributions of Shri Gidugu Rudra Raju, in his role as PCC President."

"I thank hon'ble @khargeji , #SoniaGandhi ji ,@RahulGandhiji , and @kcvenugopalmpji for trusting me with post of the president of @INC_Andhra Pradesh. I promise to work faithfully towards rebuilding the party to its past glory in the State of Andhra Pradesh with total commitment and integrity," she said.

The newly-appointed Telangana Congress president also said that she looks forward to working closely with every Congress foot soldier.

Earlier, Rudra Raju stepped down as Andhra Pradesh Congress Chief to pave the way for Sharmila's appointment.

In a resignation letter directed to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Rudra Raju has communicated his decision to step down, according to news agency IANS. This move coincides with the ongoing speculation surrounding the potential appointment of Sharmila as the APCC president by the All India Congress Committee (AICC). This decision is anticipated to precede the simultaneous elections for the state Assembly and Lok Sabha, as per the report.
