IMD Predicts Heavy Rainfall With Strong Winds In Andhra Pradesh, Telangana. Check Forecast

The meteorological department said a low pressure would develop over west-central Bay of Bengal in the northwest and surrounding areas on August 7.

Hyderabad: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday predicted moderate to heavy rain in coastal Andhra Pradesh and heavy to very heavy showers in Rayalaseema district. The MeT said the region would get rainfall due to strong winds blowing from the west-central Bay of Bengal and its surrounding areas towards the coastal region of Andhra Pradesh.   

The meteorological department said a low pressure would develop over west-central Bay of Bengal in the northwest and surrounding areas on August 7. As a result, heavy rains are expected in Telangana for the next four days. 

The regional MeT office in Hyderabad has also issued an orange alert for Adilabad, Komaram Bhim Asifabad, Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Mahbubabad, Siddipet, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, Rangareddy, Vikarabad, Mahbubnagar, Nagar Kurnool, Vanaparthi, Narayanapet, Jogulamba Gadwal, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Kamareddy, Rajanna Siricilla and Jagtial districts.

A yellow alert has been issued for heavy rainfall in Mancherial, Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhupalapalli, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Warangal Rural, Warangal Urban, Jangaon, Medchal Malkajigiri, Sangareddy and Medak districts. Officials have advised the people in the low-lying areas to remain vigilant.

A red alert indicates heavy to extremely heavy rainfall of over 20 cm in a 24 hour period, while orange alert means very heavy rain of 6 cm to 20 cm. A yellow alert means heavy rainfall between 6 to 11 cm. 

The Amaravati Met office said there would be heavy to very heavy rainfall in north coastal Andhra Pradesh for the next three days. A yellow alert has been issued for Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam districts. The districts are expected to receive rain till August 8. Officials said that there would be moderate rains in some places in East Godavari and West Godavari districts.
