First Session Of Andhra Pradesh Assembly Convenes Under TDP Coalition, Jagan Leaves After Taking Oath

The session, expected to be brief, will primarily focus on the swearing-in of newly-elected MLAs and the election of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker.

The Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly convened for its first session on Friday following the sweeping victory of the NDA alliance, comprising the TDP, BJP, and Janasena, in the state elections. The session, expected to be brief, will primarily focus on the swearing-in of newly-elected MLAs and the election of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker.

This marked the first time Chandrababu Naidu entered the state Assembly in over 30 months, following his vow to return only after being reinstated as the Chief Minister of the state.

Swearing-In of MLAs

The session commenced with the swearing-in of newly-elected MLAs, including several key leaders. This procedural step marks the formal beginning of their legislative duties. The Business Advisory Committee will determine the final duration of the session, though it is initially planned to last two days.

In the Andhra Pradesh Assembly, all YSRCP MLAs were present and took their oaths on Friday. After taking his oath, Jagan Mohan Reddy left the Assembly hall.

Originally slated to begin on June 24, the assembly session was advanced to June 21.

On June 26, the final day, sources said the government may table a Bill to withdraw the AP Land Titling Act.

Election of Speaker

According to sources within the TDP, senior party leader and Narsipatnam MLA C. Ayyanna Patrudu is likely to be elected as the Speaker of the Assembly.

On Thursday, Governor S. Abdul Nazeer administered the oath of office to senior TDP leader G. Butchaiah Chowdary as the Pro-tem Speaker at Raj Bhavan. Chowdary, who represents the Rajahmundry Rural constituency, took the oath as a Member of the Legislative Assembly before assuming his role as Pro-tem Speaker. The event was attended by a host of ministers and officials.
