Andhra Pradesh: Fearing Sons' Pressure To Usurp Property, Woman Cremates Husband At Home

The woman told police that their two sons were not taking care of them, and she suspected that if they learned about their father's death, they would come and fight for property.

A woman conducted the cremation of her husband's body at her house because she feared that if their two sons learned about his death, they would fight for his property. According to an IANS report, the incident happened in Pattikonda town of Kurnool district in Andhra Pradesh on Monday.

The woman told the police that their two sons were not taking care of them, and she suspected that if they learned about their father's death, they would come and fight for their property. Lalita told police that her husband, Harikrishna Prasad (60), was not keeping well and died early this morning. She did not inform any relatives about his death and decided to cremate him at home, reported IANS.

However, the neighbours alerted the police when they noticed smoke coming out of the house. When the police rushed there, the woman said that she performed her husband's final rites at home.

According to the IANS report, the man, Harikrishna Prasad, ran a pharmacy in the town. He is survived by his widow, Lalita, and two sons. The elder son works at a private hospital in Kurnool and the younger son is settled in Canada. Lalita said their sons did not care for them and came to the house only to demand a share in the property. She was worried that if she informed them about their father's death, they would come home and fight for the property.

Police, suspect that she is not mentally stable. Police registered a case and took up further investigation.

Earlier, a woman killed her husband along with her lover and his four friends and relatives in Siddipet town, Telangana district. The woman claimed that her husband died due to cardiac arrest, but the investigation by the police on a complaint by the victim's mother revealed that it was murder.

According to police, 19-year-old Shyamala strangled K Chandrasekhar, 24, with the help of her lover Shiva Kumar, 20. After failing in her attempt to poison her husband to death, she hatched the murder plot with Shiva and executed it with the help of Shiva's four friends and relatives.
