NVS-01 is a navigation satellite that will be part of the Navigation with Indian Constellation (NaVIC) services. Weighing approximately 2,232 kilograms, the satellite is equipped with an indigenous atomic clock.
ISRO provided a mission update stating that NVS-01 was precisely injected into a geosynchronous transfer orbit after a 19-minute flight. The satellite will undergo orbit-raising manoeuvres to reach its intended geosynchronous orbit. NVS satellites feature enhanced NavIC capabilities and incorporate L1-band signals.
In October 2022, ISRO announced its plans to expand the NavIC system, intending to increase its utilization in the civilian sector, as well as by ships and aircraft travelling significant distances from India's borders.
