The Andhra Pradesh government on Wednesday granted a paid holiday to their employees voting in Telangana Assembly elections on the day of polling on November 30. The Chief Electoral officer clarified that if an employee of Andhra Pradesh government has a voting right in Telangana and has applied for leave with documents then the employee is entitled to a paid holiday on the day of the election.

According to office of the Chief Electoral Officer, "In view of the request made by the General Secretary, Andhra Pradesh Secretariat Association, Velagapudi, Amaravati vide reference 3 cited and as per the provision contained in Section 135 B (1) of the Representation of People Act,1951, it is hereby clarified that in case an employee of Government of A.P. is having a voting right in Telangana State and applies for leave with documentary proof of EPIC card he/she are entitled for grant of paid Holiday on the day of poll i.e. on 30.11.2023."

Telangana election is set to take place on November 30 and the counting of votes will be held on December 3. The high-octane campaign in the state by leaders including PM Modi and Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi came to an end on Tuesday.

Telangana is facing a three-faced battle between ruling BRS, Congress and BJP. The election also remains significant since the results will decide on the hat trick of CM K Chandrasekhar Rao's government.

CM KCR has ruled Telangana for over a decade since the inception of the newly formed state in 2014. The Union of India's youngest state was formed out of northwest Andhra Pradesh to become the country's 29th state.

Before the formation of Telangana, Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and Congress were primary contenders in Andhra Pradesh.
