Andhra Pradesh CM Jagan Mohan Reddy Meets PM Modi, Discusses State Issues

The chief minister underlined that his state has already spent about Rs 2,900 crore on the Polavaram project so far which the central government has not yet reimbursed.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday and discussed several state issues and reiterated the release of pending funds for the Polavaram irrigation project.

The meeting was held at Modi’s residence at Lok Kalyan Marg in Delhi for about an hour. 

The Andhra Pradesh chief minister underlined that his state has already spent about Rs 2,900 crore on the Polavaram project so far which the central government has not yet reimbursed, said an ABP Desam report. He reportedly said his government is facing a resource crunch and requested the Centre to provide Rs 10,000 crore on an ad hoc basis for the early completion of the project, official sources said.

Reddy also sought early approval of the revised cost estimate for the Polavaram project, pegged at Rs 55,548.87 crore.

CM Jagan also discussed the issues related to the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act and demanded the inclusion of more beneficiaries in the southern state under the National Food Security Act, a nod for 12 more medical colleges, and the allocation of mine ore and beach sand mineral areas to the state-run Andhra Pradesh Mineral Development Corporation (APMDC).

The Chief Minister informed the Prime Minister that the state is prepared to face any situation in the wake of the latest developments of the Covid pandemic around the world.

The Chief Minister asked the Prime Minister to ensure that Telangana DISCOMs pay their Rs 6,886 crore dues to APGNCO, which is in 'dire straits.' Jagan requested Modi to provide necessary assistance for constructing a 76.9-km metro rail in Visakhapatnam, for which the Detailed Project Report has already been submitted to the Centre.

Later, Reddy also met Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav. He is scheduled to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah later in the evening.
