New Delhi: After BJP allegedly tried to provoke communal clashes in Andhra Pradesh's Guntur as the main landmark of the city -- Jinnah Tower -- painted in tricolour, on Thursday the ruling YSRCP decided that the national flag would be unfurled at the Jinnah Tower.
In this matter, Guntur East MLA Mohammed Musthafa on Thursday told ANI, "Hindus & Muslims have been living very peacefully here. We are doing it to send a message that we all stand united. BJP was trying to rake up this issue unnecessarily."

Earlier, on January 26 tensions prevailed at Jinnah circle in Guntur as the right-wing group activists while raising Jai Bharat Mata slogans tried to enter the Jinnah tower to hoist tricolour on the occasion of Republic Day. Cops thwarted the attempts made by the right-wing activists.
On the pretext of YSRCP deciding to hoist the national flag at the Jinnah Tower, the tower was painted in tricolour and a flag post was installed and made arrangements to unfurl Tiranga and now Guntur's Jinnah circle is all set to see flag hoisting.
"After requests from various groups, we decided to decorate the tower with tricolour. We will also construct a pole near it for hoisting the national flag. Necessary arrangements to hoist the flag will be made on Thursday,” said Guntur East MLA as quoted by Hindustan Times.
After the tower was painted in tricolour, BJP National Secretary, Y Satya Kumar took to his Twitter handle about this issue, said, "Painting the Jinnah Tower with tricolour will still not change the colour of your heart, Mr YS Jagan, which unfortunately, is still green with a crescent. Pay heed to people's demand & change the name of Jinnah tower!"
He further claimed that BJP has won over "psuedo-secular forces". "However it’s BJP’s win over pseudo-secular & anti-national forces. And BJP & the nationalist forces will not rest until the name of Jinnah is removed and same is named after Dr Abdul Kalam or Sri Gurram Jashuva," he further tweeted.
