Andhra Pradesh: After Reopening Of Schools, 9 Students Test Positive For Covid-19

Following the positive status, the schools remained closed on Monday and Tuesday

Chennai: Nearly nine students of two government schools tested positive for coronavirus in Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh on Monday. According to reports, since schools recently reopened in many parts of the state, random Covid-19 tests were conducted among students at Pedapalaparru village and an elementary school at Guraja Village on Friday. As the results came on Sunday, it was revealed that eight students from high school and a Class 3 student from elementary school tested positive for the virus. 

Following the positive status, the school remained closed on Monday and Tuesday. The Education Officer informed that the leave will be extended if required and the entire school was sanitized. The students were kept under home isolation and samples were lifted from other students for novel coronavirus. 

Meanwhile, the schools that remained closed in Andhra Pradesh due to the second wave of novel coronavirus reopened on August 16. The School Education Minister also instructed private schools not to conduct online classes and to commence regular classes.

On Monday, Andhra Pradesh recorded 1,002 new novel coronavirus cases within 24 hours taking overall positive cases till date in the state to 20,03,342 cases. The state also witnessed 1,508 more discharges putting the total number of active cases in the state to 14,159. The state saw the death of 12 patients. The highest number of cases was reported in East Godavari with 265 people testing positive for the virus followed by Kadapa with 132 new cases, Nellore with 118 cases and Chittoor with 113 new positive COVID-19 cases.
