Locals noticed the dead monkeys after a foul stench and informed the police and forest department. According to a Times of India report, the local villagers alleged that the monkeys were killed after having poisonous bananas.
Postmortem on the dead monkeys was conducted on Tuesday evening after the locals reported it to the police personnel. It was also reported that 45 dead monkeys were buried in the presence of revenue and police personnel.
The forest officer suspects that the culprits killed the monkeys at a different place and they dumped the carcasses of monkeys at Silagam village. Based on the complaint from the forest officials, the police will register a case under relevant sections of IPC to investigate the case.
