Rashtriya Janata Dal's Akhtarul Islam Shaheen won Samastipur assembly seat in 2015 Bihar Assembly Elections by a margin of 31080 votes. Runner-up Renu Kumari of Bharatiya Janata Party bagged 51428 votes. Third position was held by Independent's Jitandar Chaudhary while Surendra Prasad Singh of Communist Party of India (Marxist–Leninist) Liberation held the fourth spot.
