New Delhi: The third generation of the Yamaha R15 is in the works, as the lifetime of the second generation model has been drawing to a close. The third generation Yamaha R15 has been codenamed Yamaha BG7.
Yasuo Ishihara, Managing Director, Yamaha Motor Research & Development India, says that the third generation model will pack power, performance and safety together, as it has gone under the works in Japan.
The Japanese motorcycle manufacturer also promises that the third generation R15 will be even better than the second generation model. However, Yamaha does not seem to want to disclose the specifications yet. So, it assures that the third generation model will deliver better performance than the current model and will also be more safe for riding.
Under works in Japan, testing has been reportedly carried out in Indonesia. Based on renderings, many aspects on the exterior are expected to be rejigged. Taking after the Yamaha R25, it is also bound to be more aggressive. The third generation Yamaha R15 will have been surely evolved from its current design traits.
Since the Yamaha R15 V3.0 is expected to launch after April 2017, ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) will become mandatory for above 125 cc engines and so the V3.0 will also come equipped with the safety feature. That’s what is possibly suggested by the Yamaha, as it mentions improved safety.
So, the current generation Yamaha R15 V2.0 draws power from a liquid-cooled, single-cylinder, 149.8 cc engine that churns out 17 PS of power and 15 Nm of torque. The engine gets mated to a 6-speed transmission.
