Yamaha has launched two new colour schemes for the rear disc brake-equipped FZ-S FI to keep it fresh and up to date with competition, to an extent, at least. Priced at Rs 87,042 (ex-showroom Delhi), the new Matte green and Darknight colour FZ-S FI commands a premium of Rs 1,000 over the Armada Blue model. The FZ-S FI competes against the Bajaj NS 160 (Rs 82,624), Honda CB Hornet 160R CBS (Rs 90143), Apache RTR 160 4V(Rs 91,535), Hero Xtreme Sports(Rs 81,200) and the Suzuki Gixxer ABS (Rs 87,250) (all ex-showroom, Delhi).
Yamaha will also launch the FZ-S under its new brand campaign, called the ‘The Call of the Blue’. This initiative will comprise of Yamaha’s entire lineup in India. Customer engagement platforms will also be introduced with the intent of involving Yamaha owners in India with the brand.

Coming back to the FZ-S FI, aside from the new paint job and graphics, the bike remains unchanged. It continues using a diamond type frame with conventional telescopic front forks and a 7-step adjustable monoshock at the rear. Braking duties are handled by a 282mm disc brake up front and a 220mm disc clamped by a single-piston rotor at the rear. There’s still no ABS though. Its 17-inch alloys are wrapped in 100/80 section tyres in the front and a fat 140/60 section tyre at the rear.
The FZ-S FI continues to draw power from the same 149cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled, fuel-injected motor that produces 13.2PS of power at 8000rpm and a peak torque of 12.8Nm at 6000rpm. The bike also features Yamaha's patented Blue-Core technology which improves combustion efficiency without any power loss and gives precise control of fuel supply.
