US committed to results-oriented ties with China: Pompeo

Beijing [China], June 15 (ANI): United States Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who is on a visit to Beijing, said on Friday the US is committed to a "results-oriented relationship" with China as both the countries are dedicated towards denuclearisation of the Korean peninsula.

Pompeo tweeted to inform that he had a "productive meeting" with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Politburo member Wang Yang and Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

"Productive meeting with President Xi, Politburo Member Yang, and Foreign Minister Wang. Talked about #DPRK, trade, South China Sea, and a range of other issues. We are committed to a constructive, results-oriented relationship with #China" Pompeo tweeted.

Pompeo showed his willingness to enhance communication with China, properly handle outstanding issues including the movement in the South China Sea, deepen cooperation in various fields, and meet global and regional challenges.

He further appreciated China's role in working towards denuclearisation of North Korea.

"Thanks to President Xi for hosting me. US and #China are firmly committed to the complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, and facilitating a lasting and stable peace in the region," he added.

In response to this, Xi said that the issues concerning the Korean Peninsula were complex and needed to be resolved step by step, reports the Chinese state-owned Xinhua news agency.

Further, Xi discussed the outcomes of the Singaporean summit with Pompeo. They also held talks on the on-going trade war between two countries.

The US and China had undergone a bilateral trade war as the former issued an advisory to impose 25 percent of trade tariffs on steel and aluminum products and another set of taxes on Chinese tech goods worth US dollar 50 million.

In retaliation, China threatened to impose 25 percent tariff on USD 50 billion worth of US exports.

As reported by the Xinhua News agency, Xi called on both North Korea and the US to implement the consensus reached by North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un and American president Donald Trump during the summit.

He said that the two countries could help bring policies that could benefit the entire world by strengthening communication, enhancing mutual trust, and expanding cooperation which in return would their bilateral ties.

Xi suggested that the two countries needed to respect each other's strategic intentions and undertake actions that would facilitate their forty years old diplomatic ties.

Focusing on the US-China relations, Xi said that they were committed to developing cooperative relations featuring mutual respect, equality, mutual benefit, and win-win results.

He called for further high-level meetings and institutional dialogues between with the US and enhancing people-people ties.

While talking of inclusion of Taiwan in the country and the on-going trade conflicts with the US, Xi said that the latter was able to handle these issues in a prudent way. He further said the Singaporean summit was historic, fruitful, and was necessary for the denuclearisation and asked the US to provide a political solution for the current situation of both Korean countries.(ANI)
