Kabul: Ghani orders probe into Kunduz airstrikes

Kabul [Afghanistan], April 4 (ANI): Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani has appointed a team to conduct a probe into the airstrikes at Dasht-e-Archi in the Kunduz province.

An official statement released by the presidential palace of Afghanistan on Tuesday read, "To illustrate the nature of the harm sustained to civilians in the incident, President Ghani has assigned a commission" to carry out a "broad-based investigation and report back about findings of their investigation to the national security council within a week, as quoted by the Tolo News.

The task team will be headed by General Khudaidad Hazara, the Inspector General of the National Security Council, and include presidential advisors Tahir Safai and Sayed Sulaiman Hamid.

The statement further acknowledged the civilian casualties caused during the airstrikes, while pointing out that the lives and property of the civilians are paramount for the government.

Earlier, the United Nations also ordered a probe into the Kunduz airstrikes which claimed 50 lives and injured 150 others. (ANI)
