Monsoon Alert: One killed, several injured as trees collapse across Mumbai.

Mumbai’s monsoon has turned increasingly dangerous, with heavy rain and strong winds causing trees to collapse across the city, leading to fatalities, injuries, and widespread property damage. In Goregaon, a massive tree fell on MG Road, injuring two women, while in King Circle, fallen trees crushed several parked and moving vehicles. Similar incidents were reported from Matunga, Worli, Thane, and Bandra, where a tree fell in front of industrialist Mukesh Ambani’s security convoy, temporarily disrupting traffic. The most tragic incident occurred in Kurla West’s Naupada area, where a large tree crashed onto a shop, killing 63-year-old Yunus Kundawala. The accident sparked criticism of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), with political leaders demanding an inquiry into the failure to conduct proper tree audits and maintenance. Mumbai Mayor assured financial assistance of ₹5 lakh to the victim’s family, while opposition leaders accused civic authorities of negligence. BJP MLA Amit Satam claimed he had earlier warned officials about the need for tree pruning. The incidents have renewed concerns over monsoon preparedness and civic accountability in Mumbai.
