Janhit: Supreme Court Clears Way for Bihar Voter List Revision Ahead of Assembly Polls | ABP NEWS
With less than 100 days to go for the Bihar Assembly elections, political tensions are soaring. The Supreme Court today refused to halt the ongoing voter list revision in the state, rejecting the opposition’s plea. The Court upheld the Election Commission’s right to conduct its constitutional duties, stating it would not interfere in its functioning. The plea argued that voters registered for over a decade were being unfairly asked to revalidate their identity, and alleged that Aadhaar and Voter ID cards were being excluded arbitrarily. The Election Commission clarified that Aadhaar is not proof of citizenship and cannot solely determine voter eligibility. The bench observed that electoral procedures must balance fairness with legality. Meanwhile, protests by RJD and the Mahagathbandhan over the revision drive turned chaotic. In Darbhanga, RJD workers allegedly blocked an ambulance and misbehaved with civilians during the state-wide bandh. A female police officer on duty was also stopped and forced to return. Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha criticized the RJD, calling it a return of "poisonous politics." He condemned the use of the infamous “bhoora baal saaf karo” slogan — once associated with caste-based violence in Bihar. Tejashwi Yadav is also under fire after a viral video showed him allegedly urging the public to defeat fellow INDIA bloc member Pappu Yadav. The incident has raised questions about alliance unity in Bihar. As the electoral process continues, voter eligibility, identity politics, and alliance cracks dominate the political discourse.
