‘Not A Pool, That’s A Lake': Internet Reacts To Terrifying Video Of Bangkok Rooftop Pool Overflowing Amid Quake

A viral video on social media captured the aftermath from a Bangkok high-rise, showing water spilling over the edge of a rooftop pool due to the tremors.

After a strong earthquake hit Myanmar and neighbouring Thailand on Friday, causing severe damage to buildings and killing around 1000 people, several videos and photos of the incident surfaced on social media.

A video of a rooftop swimming pool reportedly from a high-rise in Bangkok has surfaced on social media, showing water moving back and forth before forcefully spilling over the edge of the building due to strong tremors. The powerful earthquake caused panic among people as it shook buildings, and water spilled from rooftop pools.

Netizens React

As soon as the video surfaced on social media, several users came up with their mixed responses. One of the netizens said jokingly, "That building really said 'let me cry real quick."

The next said, "Oh my god, can you imagine being in that pool when that happened."

"Who is filming during an earthquake with a calm hand?" a user questioned.

Another said, "That was not a pool, it was a whole fricking lake."

The next also said, "Don’t be alarmed - this is intentional. The building is designed with a semi-attached pool to act as a dampener to the tremors, vibrations and earthquakes. In the same way a pendulum or dampener is placed high up to counter act the sway and movement of an earthquake. As the building shakes and sways, the pool water moves and counter balances the sway - thereby maintaining stability of the entire building. Brilliant engineering !"

Another also stated, "I can't imagine finally enjoying an infinity pool and getting roughly tossed over the side at 9am by an earthquake."
