Man 'Accidentally' Opens Emergency Exit Door On Bengaluru-Bound IndiGo Flight, Arrested

A passenger on an IndiGo flight from Jodhpur to Bengaluru accidentally opened the emergency exit door before takeoff, causing a 20-minute delay.

A man travelling on an IndiGo flight was arrested after he opened the emergency exit door just before the flight was due to take-off.

According to the details, the incident happened at Jodhpur Airport, Rajasthan, which led to a 20-minute delay in the flight operations, reported NDTV. The flight was scheduled to take-off at 10:10 AM for Bengaluru.

The incident happened when the cabin crew was giving safety instructions and the flight was about to take off. As per the information, the passenger is identified as Siraj Kidwai, who works for Axis Bank. He claimed that he 'accidentally' open the emergency flap.

However, the incident led to commotion on the flight and the crew members followed standard operating procedures (SOPs), and the passenger was removed from the aircraft by the security officials.

In a statement, IndiGo said, "Today, during the safety briefing before the departure of flight 6E 6033 from Jodhpur to Bengaluru, a passenger opened the emergency exit flap. The crew immediately followed standard operating procedures. The passenger was later disembarked and handed over to law enforcement officials for investigation."

The airline also expressed regret over the incident and inconvenience caused to other passengers. It also assured that it remains committed to maintaining the highest standards of safety and security in its operations.

In a  statment, it said, “We regret the inconvenience caused to other passengers on the flight and reaffirm our commitment to maintaining the highest standards of safety and security in all our operations."

Last year, the Bengaluru International Airport police arrested a 22-year-old student on the charge of trying to open the emergency exit door of the domestic flight. As per the details, the accused was identified as Karthik Karan, and he was a native of Kolkata. He was a first-time air traveller and had come to Bengaluru on an Indigo flight to meet his friend during his vacation.
