'Bagheera' Spotted In Bengal: Check Out Viral Video Of Rare Black Panther
A black panther was spotted in a forest in Kurseong, West Bengal. A forest officer shared the video on social media, calling it the 'Bagheera of Kurseong'.

Black Panther Viral Video: In a country like India where Jungle Book's Bagheera was born from the pen of Rudyard Kipling, the sighting of a black panther is bound to go viral. And that is what's happened.
While there is no dearth of jungle safaris in India where people catch glimpses of lions, tigers, and leopards, a black panther is rare. The black panther's beauty lies not just in its sleek and mysterious looks, but also in its raw and unbridled power. It is an expert hunter on land and is also an expert swimmer. To make matters worse for its prey, the black panther can jump up to 20 feet and can even expertly climb trees.
The Black Panther is a rare sight as it is an extremely reclusive animal and is a stealthy prowler. But recently the animal was captured on video in all its grace walking in a jungle in West Bengal. The video of the black panther was captured by a forest officer, Parveen Kaswan, in the jungles of Kurseong, West Bengal.
Sharing the video on X, Kaswan called the animal "Bagheera of Kurseong". Now, the video is going viral on social media.

Some netizens urged Kaswan to not reveal the exact location of the animal. "Please sir, I humbly request you to keep his location secret. Hunters are everywhere. Our rare wildlife should be protected," an X user said. Another user commented, "Definitely as beautiful as the Bengal Tiger. Perhaps, even more attractive. Thanks for the clip," another said.
What Is A Black Panther?
A black panther is not a separate species in itself. Rather, it is a melanistic variant of the leopard or, sometimes, the jaguar. This means that when members of these two big cat families develop excessive black pigment, they are called black panthers.
According to the Government of India, leopards number around 13,800 in India. Black panthers could be 10%-11% of this.
