YS Sharmila Sent To 2-Week Judicial Custody For Assaulting Cops In Hyderabad

YSRTP Chief YS Sharmila was sent to 14-day judicial custody for assaulting police personnel on duty in Hyderabad.

Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Telangana Party (YSRTP) Chief YS Sharmila was sent to 14-day judicial custody on Monday after she was arrested for assaulting police personnel on duty in Hyderabad. She was transferred to Chanchalguda Jail on Monday night after the court issued its order. Sharmila will remain in judicial custody until May 8.

She was stopped by police after police officials received information about her visiting the Special Investigation Team (SIT)'s office over the Telangana State Public Service Commission (TSPSC) question paper leak case.

She engaged in a scuffle with police personnel who were detaining her to prevent her from visiting the SIT office, as per a video shared by news agency ANI.

On a complaint by a sub-inspector of police, a case was booked against Sharmila at Banjara Hills police station.

Police registered a case against Sharmila and her drivers under the IPC's Sections 353 (assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from discharge of his duty), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter a public servant from his duty), 509 (word, gesture, or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman), and 427 (mischief causing damage).

Another case was booked under the IPC's Section 337 (causing hurt to any person by doing any act so rashly or negligently as to endanger human life or the personal safety of others).

"Police had gone to Sharmila's house after receiving information that she was going to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) office probing the Telangana State Public Service Commission (TSPSC) question paper leak case," Deputy Commissioner of Police Joel Davis said, as quoted by IANS. Since there was no permission for Sharmila's visit to the SIT office, the police personnel were trying to explain the same to her, but she assaulted them, he further said.

The driver of Sharmila's car also did not stop the car on the order of the police and hit them, injuring Constable Giribabu. Sharmila allegedly manhandled two sub-inspectors and a woman constable. One of the SIs went to the hospital for treatment.

The YSRTP leader was taken to Jubilee Hills police station. Later, when her mother, Y.S. Vijayamma, went to the police station to meet her, when she was stopped by the police, she argued with them.
