Women's Reservation Bill: BRS's K Kavitha Hails Centre's Move, But Airs Concerns Over 'Lack Of Transparency'

Kavitha expressed her apprehension over the contents of the Bill and said that she wished the government was more transparent and inclusive.

Amid reports of Union Cabinet's approval to the Women's Reservation Bill, BRS MLC Kavitha conveyed her happiness over the reported decision but also expressed her apprehension over the contents of the Bill on Tuesday. Kavitha mentioned that there was no official communication from the Centre and everyone had to learn from the developments through the reports. Even though the outcome of the cabinet meeting that took place for over 90 minutes on Monday evening is yet to be made public, sources confirmed to ABP that the Centre had approved the women's reservation bill. 

On Monday, Minister of State Prahlad Singh Patel posted on X that the Cabinet approved the women's reservation bill. However, he deleted the post within an hour. 

On Women’s Reservation Bill, BRS MLC K Kavitha said, "Happy we get to hear we are hearing from the sources that Cabinet has cleared the introduction of Women's Reservation Bill in the Parliament. And I hope the bill will be introduced very soon.”

“The only, objection or the only apprehension that we currently have is that the nature of the bill is not being openly discussed by this government. The transparency of the government is missing. So we hope the government will truly come up with a bill that will be agreeable to most of the parties,” she said.

The BRS leader pointed out that although the government can independently pass the bill despite having support or not due to their good majority it is at times when the parties could rise above political interest.

She said, “The government should reach out to all the parties and build a consensus. We wish the government was more transparent and more inclusive...And we will continue to support them in whichever format the bill is introduced.”

She said the 33 per cent OBC quota bill should also be introduced.

Earlier, Kavitha wrote to leaders of all major parties seeking their support in passing women’s reservation bill during the special parliament session.
