The UGC Secretary requested all the vice-chancellors and principals to hoist the national flag of their respective institutions.

The Centre earlier declared a year-long celebration to commemorate 75 years since Hyderabad was freed from Nizam rule and merged with rest of India. The year-long celebration will be officially launched by Union Minister Amit Shah in Hyderabad on September 17.

The Chief Ministers of Telangana, Karnataka and Maharashtra have been invited to the event. The Union Culture Minister G Kishan Reddy asked all the three chief ministers to organise celebrations on the first day of the event. "I would also request you to identify events and commemorations throughout the year and share these plans with the Government of India so that a holistic approach can be taken in planning the yearlong commemorations," Reddy earlier wrote, as quoted by The Mint.
