Telangana: Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda Graduates' Constituency Byelection To MLC Seat To Be Held On May 27

The vacancy arose due to the resignation of Dr. Palla Rajeshwar Reddy of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) in December last year after he was elected to the Assembly from Jangaon constituency.

The Election Commission announced that the by-election for Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda Graduates' constituency in Telangana Legislative Council will take place on May 27. This vacancy arose due to the resignation of Dr. Palla Rajeshwar Reddy of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) in December last year after he was elected to the Assembly from Jangaon constituency.

The notification for the by-election will be issued on May 2, with the last date for filing nominations set for May 9. Subsequently, scrutiny of nominations will take place on May 10. Candidates will have until May 13 to withdraw their candidatures. Polling is scheduled to occur from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on May 27, with the counting of votes slated for June 5.

In terms of candidates, the ruling Congress has announced Teenmaar Mallanna as its nominee for the by-election. Teenmaar Mallanna, also known as Chintapandu Naveen, joined the party in November last year, just before the Assembly elections, after parting ways with the BJP a few months earlier.

The by-election to the Legislative Council from the Mahabubnagar Local Authorities’ Constituency took place on March 28, with the counting of votes initially scheduled for April 2. However, the Election Commission decided to postpone the counting to June 2 due to the model code of conduct announced for the Lok Sabha elections.

A total of 1,439 eligible voters, including municipal councillors, MPTCs, ZPTCs, and ex-officio members, were entitled to cast their votes in the by-election. Except for two individuals, all had cast their votes on March 28.

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy exercised his vote as an ex-officio member, representing the MLA from Kodangal constituency. The by-election witnessed a direct contest between Manney Jeevan Reddy of the Congress and N. Naveen Kumar Reddy of the BRS.

The by-election was prompted by the resignation of Kasireddy Narayan Reddy from the BRS, who subsequently contested and won as a Congress candidate from the Kalwakurthy Assembly constituency in the recent elections.
