At the time of the incident, it was expected that 10 people were in the building
A massive fire broke out at a sports store in Secunderabad's Nallagutta on Thursday morning. The incident took place at the Deccan Nightwear Sports Shop under the jurisdiction of Ramgopalpet Police station.
At the time of the incident, it was expected that more than five people were in the building. However, four of them who were trapped on the top floor of the building, were rescued with the help of a crane.
According to the ABP Desam report, after receiving the information from the locals, the fire tenders rushed to the spot and efforts were made to bring the fire under control. Though there have been no reported casualties, the spread of smoke has caused problems for the firefighters. The Ramgopalpet police and fire departments are collaborating to put out the fire.
Firefighters entered the building using additional fire tenders after receiving information about the building's specifications, and the search is currently ongoing to see whether any other people are still trapped inside the building, police said. The cause of the fire is not yet known, and an investigation is underway.
"It will take another two hours to bring the fire under control. Two firemen were seriously injured during the rescue. One of the injured is in critical condition and undergoing treatment in ICU," said Y Nagi Reddy, the Additional Director General of the Fire Department.
"We rescued all those who were trapped in the building. The cause of the fire is not yet known, and an investigation is underway," Reddy added.
Minister T Srinivas Yadav, who visited the incident spot, was supervising rescue and relief work. The minister said stringent action would be taken against illegal warehouses in the midst of residential areas as they were posing a risk to people's lives.
Earlier, a fire at an electric scooter showroom in Secunderabad killed eight people and injured six others. The fire broke out at the electric scooter recharging unit in the basement of the building, closer to the passport office, and spread to the staircase and four floors of the hotel above it.
Around 25-30 occupants in the hotel were trapped in the fire while many tried to jump out of the building to save their lives and got injured.
