The project which was first launched on August 15, 2018 was designed to last five months and cover the whole population of the state at a cost of Rs 106 crore.

The Telangana government is set to relaunch the Kanti Velugu scheme aimed at taking up universal eye screening by covering the entire population of the state from January 18, 2023. The scheme includes free eye check-ups, surgery and distribution of spectacles as needed to beneficiaries.

During a review meeting at Pragathi Bhavan on Thursday, Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao decided to relaunch Kanti Velugu. He added that lakhs of individuals particularly senior citizens from lower-income families benefited from the scheme. The scheme will cater to those who could not otherwise afford eye care.

The project, which began on August 15, 2018, was organised for five months and covered the whole population of the state at a cost of Rs 106 crore. The goal of this scheme is to eliminate avoidable blindness in Telangana by conducting eye screening tests, giving spectacles and medicines, and arranging for free surgeries and other treatments for the needy.

CM KCR also held a meeting with officials from the departments of roads and buildings (R&B), panchayat raj, and rural development (PR&RD) to examine the state's road infrastructure and asked them to fix bad roads by the second week of December.

KCR also asked officials to repair rain and flood-damaged roads first, followed by other routes. "Tenders for road repairs should be issued, and work should begin within a week," he stated. KCR also requested that authorities provide a report to the government on administrative improvements that need to be implemented so that it can be approved at the next cabinet meeting.
