Telangana BJP Chief Kishan Reddy Urges State Govt To Utilise SDRF For Flood Relief

Union Tourism Minister and Telangana BJP president G Kishan Reddy on Sunday visited flood affected village of Moranchapalli in Jayashankar Bhupalapally district and demanded the state government utilise State Disaster Relief Fund (SDRF) for relief works in the flood-hit areas. He claimed that there is Rs 900 crore available in the SDRF account, with the Centre contributing 75 percent of the funds and the state providing the remaining 25 percent.

The minister emphasised that the state government should use these funds for various purposes, including providing compensation to the families of the deceased and repairing the damaged roads in the flood-affected regions.

Kishan Reddy stated that the state government does not require any permission to use the SDRF funds for disaster relief efforts, indicating that the funds are readily available for use in such situations.

He interacted with the affected families and assured the central government’s help. He said that the Centre would provide Rs 4 lakhs as compensation to the deceased. He ordered the officials to expedite work to find the whereabouts of the missing individuals.

He stated that after his phone call to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the Centre undertook various measures for rescue and relief activities in the flood-affected areas.

Kishan Reddy visited Warangal town and went around the areas which were flooded due to recent heavy rains and floods. He also visited the colonies inundated by a breach of a lake. Reddy was accompanied by the Bhupalpally district collector Bhavesh Mishra.

The heavy rains that occurred over the past week resulted in the inundation of low-lying regions and caused damage to agricultural fields in various parts of the state.

As per the Hyderabad Meteorological Department, heavy rainfall is expected to continue in isolated areas of several districts. Specifically, Adilabad, Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Jayashankar Bhupalapally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, and Mahabubabad districts are likely to experience heavy rains from 8.30 AM on August 1 to 8.30 AM on August 2.
