'Shared Topical Is Incorrect': Amul After TRS MLA Shares Edited Ad On GST Hike

Amul tagged the MLA Gandra Venkataramana Reddy and posted its original advertising campaign highlighting the truth behind the viral posters.

Hyderabad: Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) MLA Gandra Venkataramana Reddy has shared an image of what appeared to be an Amul advertisement with a tagline that read "Ab Ki Baar GST Ka Maar" (This time GST will hurt people). The tweet was in reference to the Centre's five per cent hike in Goods and Services Tax (GST) on some essential items that has come under fire from the Opposition.

Along with the images, Reddy, the MLA from Bhupalpally constituency, wrote a caption that said, "Galat Sarkar Tax 5 per cent Hike on Milk #DhokhebaazModi".

As the tweet went viral on social media, Amul tagged the MLA and posted its original advertisement. The original ad had the tagline "Ab Ki Bar, Bhajap Sweekar", referring to the BJP's sweeping victory in the 2014 elections.

The Centre, earlier this week, announced a five per cent increase in GST on products such as pre-packaged curd, lassi and butter, which were earlier exempt from the tax. Apart from this, GST has also been implemented on packed and labelled rice, flour and wheat.

Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha have failed to transact any significant business so far since the Monsoon Session began on July 18 due to continuous protests by Congress and Opposition parties over levying of GST on certain food items of daily use.
