Protests At Hyderabad University After Foreign Student Alleges Rape By Professor
The accused professor Ravi Ranjan is a staff of the Hindi Department and the protesting students also urged the management to suspend the professor.
Chennai: University of Hyderabad students started to stage a protest on the campus against the university after a professor allegedly attempt to sexually assault a student of the university. The woman is a foreigner and she is reportedly from Thailand.
On Saturday, the students gathered at the main gate of the University and started the protest demanding justice. They also urged the management to suspend the professor. They also alleged that the University failed to respond to their calls after the incident, a report on Siasat said.
According to ANI, “Students protest in Hyderabad University campus following the incident where a professor allegedly molested an international student of the University. The Professor has been taken into custody by Cyberabad Police.”
K Shilpavalli, DCP Madhapur said, “Cyberabad Police have taken a professor of the University of Hyderabad into custody after a student alleged that he molested her. The student belongs to Thailand & is studying here.”

The accused professor was a staff of the Hindi Department. He has been identified as Ravi Ranjan.
According to IANS, the survivor said that the 69-year-old professor called her to his office and tried to sexually assault her. However, she said escaped and later gave a complaint. The victim, who is from Thailand, lodged a complaint with the Gachibowli Police Station under Cyberabad Police Commissionerate.
The police have also recorded her statement.
Following the complaint, Cyberbad police booked a case against the accused under various sections of Indian Penal Code.
The accused is currently being questioned.
