Justice Ujjal Bhuyan Sworn-In As Telangana High Court Chief Justice

Hyderabad: Justice Ujjal Bhuyan was sworn in as the Chief Justice of Telangana High Court in a ceremony held at Raj Bhavan on Tuesday. Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan administered the oath of office to Justice Bhuyan, the fifth Chief Justice of the state high court. 

Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, Speaker Pocharam Srinivas Reddy, Minister Niranjan Reddy, Union Minister G Kishan Reddy and senior officials were present at the CJ swearing-in ceremony at Telangana Raj Bhavan. In this order, heavy security was deployed near the Raj Bhavan. Traffic was also diverted in that region.

Justice Bhuyan was named as the new Chief Justice by the Centre on June 19. Justice Satish Chandra Sharma, who was appointed to the Delhi High Court, was replaced by him.

Bhuyan was born in Guwahati on August 2, 1964, and graduated from Government Law College and Gauhati University with LL.B. and LL.M. degrees, respectively. He registered with the Assam, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Manipur, Tripura, Mizoram, and Arunachal Pradesh Bar Councils in 1991. 

Justice Bhuyan was appointed as Additional Judge of Gauhati High Court on October 17, 2011, and was made a permanent judge on March 20, 2013.

On October 3, 2019, he was moved to the Bombay High Court and swore in as a judge. The judge was transferred to Telangana High Court on October 22, 2021.

President Ram Nath Kovind recently approved on May 17 a recommendation for the transfer of judges from the collegium headed by Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Justice NV Ramana. The Union Ministry of Justice last week issued gazette notifications to that effect. With this, Justice Ujjal Bhuyan has been appointed as the Chief Justice of the Telangana High Court.
