Hyderabad: Woman Arrested For Not Preventing Son From Stripping Woman
The 30-year-old accused, accompanied by his mother, misbehaved with the young woman and tore her clothes in Balaji Nagar.
Hyderabad Police has arrested a woman for not stopping his son from publicly stripping a young woman. Rachakonda police arrested Nagamma on Wednesday and presented her before a court, which remanded her to judicial custody, IANS reported.
Police booked Nagamma and her son Peddamaraiah for the incident that occurred on the night of August 6 in Balaji Nagar. The 30-year-old accused, accompanied by his mother, misbehaved with a young woman who was walking on the road by touching her inappropriately. The victim tried to defend herself by pushing him but the accused pounced on her and tore her clothes.
Peddamaraiah’s mother did not intervene and help the woman. When another woman stopped to question the accused, he also attempted to attack her. The victim stood without clothes on the road for about 15 minutes. After the accused left the scene, some bystanders came forward to cover her and informed the police.
Following a complaint by the 28-year-old victim, the police registered a case and arrested the accused, who was reported to be in an inebriated condition. He has been charged under various IPC sections, including 354 (b), 323, 506 r/w 34, which pertains to outraging modesty, criminal assault, intimidation, and criminal intent towards a common cause. The accused's mother has also been held accountable for failing to prevent her son's actions.
On Tuesday, the National Commission for Women (NCW) sought a report from Telangana's Director General of Police regarding the incident.
“NCW strongly condemns shocking incident in Hyderabad. A young woman stripped on the road after resisting molestation, while another brave woman tried to intervene. This audacious crime raises serious concerns about law & order,” tweeted the Commission.
“NCW urges prompt investigation, medical support, and expects a detailed report within 7 days from the DGP,” it added.
