Hyderabad: BTech Student Jumps To Death From College Building

A first-year BTech student jumped to death from the fifth floor of a private university campus at Rudraram in Hyderabad on Friday. The cause of the death is yet to be ascertained. However, a video of the incident reportedly shot by another student has went viral on social media evoking reactions from the users.

The deceased was identified as Renu Sri (18) from the West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh. Three months ago, the student joined first-year computer engineering course at Gitam University at Rudraram branch. Her parents were residing at Yellammabanda area of Kukatpally. 

The viral video of the incident circulated on social media showed Renu sitting on a parapet wall engrossed in her mobile phone. She eventually set the phone aside, leaned forward while gripping the parapet wall with one hand, and proceeded to jump.

In the video, the cries of students were also heard.

However, Renu jumped, suffered multiple injuries and succumbed on the spot. 

The police immediately reached the spot and took her body to Area Hospital Patancheru for a thorough autopsy. 

Inspector G Lalu Naik told Times Of India that no suicide note was recovered from the spot.

The student took the extreme step even as fellow students shouted asking her to move away and a few others shot a video, according to the report. 

In October last year, a student preparing for competitive exams died by suicide in her hostel room in Hyderabad. The victim identified as Pravalika was found dead at the Brindavan hostel in Ashok Nagar.
