Hyderabad: Newly Married Woman Jumps To Death After Spouse Rebukes Her For Using Mobile
Shailaja’s parents had earlier warned her against using her mobile phone constantly. Hence, after marriage, Shailaja exercised restraint and did not use the phone for a month.
A newly married woman jumped to death from a multi-story building in Hyderabd on Thursday after her husband constantly castigated her for spending too much time with her mobile phone.
The woman, K Sailaja (20), was married to Ganga Prasad (28), two months ago, and the couple was staying in an apartment at Sri Sai Colony in Jeedimetla in Hyderabad.
Sailaja was a homemaker, while Ganga Prasad is a private employee. Shailaja’s parents had earlier warned her against using her mobile phone constantly. Hence, after marriage, Shailaja exercised restraint and did not use the phone for a month.
Recently, Shailaja's husband, Ganga Prasad, gifted her a mobile phone, which turned out to be a bone of contention between the couple. Shailaja went back to using her mobile phone constantly and was very active on social media. She refused to do any household chores, which incensed Ganga Prasad. He went on to change the mobile password and confiscate the phone from her.

Shailaja threatened her husband that she would kill herself if he did not return the phone. Ganga Prasad was worried and called Shailaja's mother, who lives in Vijayawada, and requested that she come and speak to Shailaja in person. While the victim’s mother was on her way, Shailaja again got into an argument with Ganga Prasad for not giving her the mobile password.
In a fit of rage, she jumped off the terrace of the two-storey building where they lived. She fell to the ground and died on the spot due to grievous bleeding injuries.
The police were informed about her suicide, and the body was taken to Gandhi hospital for a post-mortem. It was later handed over to Shailaja’s parents.
